Education Minister Yoav Kisch sent an official invitation to US President Donald Trump to attend the Israel Prize ceremony in Jerusalem on Independence Day.
The invitation comes following Kisch’s decision to grant him an award for his “unique contribution to the Jewish people,” according to a letter released by the minister on Tuesday.
Kisch said the Israel Prize committee made a “historic decision” to honor Trump for “exceptional leadership” and long-term impact on Israel-US relations, reflecting “the deep and enduring friendship between our two nations.”
Kisch notified the president of the award in December, during Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to the US, the ministry said.
The committee cited Trump’s efforts to combat antisemitism, support for efforts to return hostages to Israel, recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, and consistent backing of Israel’s right to defend itself, including amid complex security challenges and the Iranian nuclear threat.
Kisch also stated that he plans to present Trump with a one-of-a-kind sculpture designed by Ben Dror, a 24-year-old designer who has served 600 days in reserve duty.
The base is fashioned from stones of the Western Wall, symbolizing Jewish history, while a polished golden Star of David rises from the stones to represent rebirth, the future, and success.
Trump reportedly invited to light Independence Day torch
Additionally, an N12 report indicated that, alongside his invitation to attend the ceremony, Trump has been invited to light a torch at the 78th Independence Day ceremony.
According to the report, the Israeli proposal has already been conveyed to Trump and his team, who have confirmed it.
