German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said on Tuesday that weakening the Palestinian Authority (PA) would not serve Israel's security and could create a vacuum that more radical forces might fill.

"The PA is not perfect and is in urgent need of reform. However, weakening the PA does not serve Israel's security; instead, it could create a vacuum that other, more radical forces might fill," Wadephul said during a visit to Jerusalem.

Wadephul added that the Palestinian Authority required the tax and customs revenues to which it was entitled to provide essential services, and said he had again called for the release of funds owed to it.

This is a developing story.
