Strand Releasing, one of the top US foreign-film distributors, bought the rights to release Avi Nesher’s latest film, The Other Story, in America yesterday.
Strand has released more than 300 films by top foreign filmmakers including Jean-Luc Godard, Francois Ozon, Fatih Akin and Gaspar Noe in theaters all over the US, as well as selling films to streaming platforms such as Amazon and iTunes.
This is the latest achievement for The Other Story, which has sold more than 200,000 tickets in Israel in its first two weeks of release, as well as breaking the Israel Film Day prerelease record in October, with more than 40,000 viewers.
The movie was the opening-night attraction at the Israel Film Festival in Los Angeles last week, where Nesher received the 2018 IFF Cinematic Achievement Award. It has been shown at several film festivals around the world, including the Chicago International Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival.
The movie, Nesher’s 20th, tells the story of an Israeli psychologist (Yuval Segal), who returns to Jerusalem after a long absence to talk to his troubled daughter (Joy Rieger), who has just become ultra-Orthodox and is about to marry a musician (Nathan Goshen). Goshen’s theme song from the movie has been a hit throughout Israel.
