Communications Minister Ayoub Kara (Likud) collapsed during a session of the Knesset on Wednesday.
He was cared for by the Knesset house medical doctor and Joint List MK Ahmed Tibi, who is a doctor, until an ambulance took him to Hadassah University Medical Center, in Jerusalem’s Ein Kerem.
Dr Koby Asaf, the head of the hospital’s emergency department said Wednesday night that Kara was completely conscious and in stable condition, and that tests showed that he was in good health. Nevertheless, the doctors decided that Kara would remain in the hospital overnight for additional monitoring.
The coalition and opposition agreed to stop the Knesset session.
This was not the first time Kara has suffered medical issues when he had gone through a political crisis.
When he was not appointed a minister by Netanyahu in 2015, he fainted in the Knesset and was taken to the hospital. He was appointed a minister a year later.
Kara was the subject of an investigative report on Army Radio this week that accused him of misusing the communications portfolio.
The accusations include that he arranged for family members to be hired in the postal service and that he sent thousands of New Year’s cards without paying.
