Bayit Yehudi ministers play teacher for the day

Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked taught a class on Internet safety at a Tel Aviv high school Tuesday morning, as part of a joint program between her ministry and the Education Ministry to introduce the issue in high schools across the country. In the class at the Roz Matzkin high school, Shaked explained to students that posting things that invade others' privacy or that are of a sexual nature can constitute a criminal offense, punishable by up to five years in prison. She also posted these reminders on her Facebook page, advising her followers to “Be smart. Be sensitive. Follow the law.” Meanwhile, Education Minister Naftali Bennett met with Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat to enjoy story and play time in two Jerusalem preschools. On Monday afternoon, Bennett and Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon announced a NIS 400 million reform that will add a second assistant to preschools with over 29 children and will also expand some of the programming and resources available to preschools. “This morning I came to personally announce to the preschool teachers: [Starting in] September, there will be an additional assistant in every preschool,” the education minister said Tuesday. “This is a tremendous announcement for parents. Together we will build the future of our young children.” Barkat, who publicly announced his enthusiasm for the reforms on Monday, added on Tuesday that the decision to focus on young children was the right one. “The more we influence our children at an early age, the more potential we will see fulfilled later on down the road,” said the mayor. During their visit to the two state schools – the secular Yama Preschool and the religious Michal Preschool – Bennett and Barkat participated in the morning activities, singing songs, reading stories, and playing with water colors, plasticine and dolls. Bennett thanked Barkat for the visit and for the cooperation in implementing the new reform. “With every passing day, I fall in love more and more with the education system and the children of Israel,” said the minister.
