At the 26th Children’s Theater Festival in Haifa over the intermediate days of Passover, Mozart’s Magic won Best Play with additional awards going to Shai Lahav for Best Playwright and to Batya and Michael Pik for Best Set.
The Best Youth Play, a new category at the festival, went to The First Kiss, which also won Best Choreography for Roni Brandstetter, Best Music for Omri Dagan and Best Director for Yeara Reshef.
Best Actress went to Roni Eynav for Chichiya and Best Actor to Nir Strauss for My Grandpa’s Chief of Staff. Street theater also won prizes with first prize going to the Vaiven Circus group from France for Do Not Disturb.
Veteran British-born clown and comedian Julian Chagrin, who was one of the judges for the street theater plays, and US-born clown Django Edwards were each presented with a Life Achievement Award.
The 10 competition plays were chosen from some 150 submissions. Each of the winning plays received a NIS 10,000 cash prize with NIS 1,500 going to each of the winners in the other categories.
The festival, as always, was held in and around the Haifa Theater.
