The Israel Museum will come alive today with the melodies of the shtetl as it hosts “Klezmer in the Gallery,” a musical encounter featuring a range of cultures and styles from around the world against the backdrop of the Museum’s Fine Art and Jewish Life galleries.Throughout the day (11 a.m.-4 p.m.) there will be hourly performances by international and Israeli artists of authentic klezmer music as well as klezmer fused with jazz, ethnic music and classic rock. Participating artists include local clarinetist Hanan Bar Sela, Canadian percussionist Boris Sichon and German pianist Sebastian Waltz.Later in the day, one can enjoy a master class (4:30 p.m. in Springer Auditorium) with Boris Allakhverdyan, principal clarinetist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. This is followed by two evening performances: one of classical, klezmer and gypsy music at 7 p.m. and the other of classical, klezmer and tango music at 9 p.m.All the concerts in the galleries will be open to the public and are free of charge (included with a regular museum entrance ticket). For the evening auditorium performances, tickets can be purchased at the museum’s box office or at www.imj.org.il. Prices include entrance to the museum.
