‘Next to Her’ wins top prize at Haifa film festival
The movie, directed by Asaf Korman, tells the story of a young woman caring for her severely disabled sister.

The film Next to Her won the top prize in the Best Israeli Feature Film competition at the 30th Haifa International Film Festival, which concluded on October 18.The movie, directed by Asaf Korman, tells the story of a young woman caring for her severely disabled sister. The film, which was shown in Cannes and which will be the opening-night film for the Israel Film Festival in Los Angeles on October 23, won a screenplay award for Liron Ben-Shlush, who also plays the lead role in the film.Sophie Artus’ Valley won the award for Best Debut Feature. The movie, which tells the story of a friendship among adolescents that turns violent, also won the Best Actor Award for its star, Neveh Tzur.Levana Finkelstein won the Best Actress Award for her performance as an elderly woman struggling with dementia in The Farewell Party, directed by Sharon Maymon and Tal Granit.The prize for Best Israeli Documentary went to Avi Belkin and Avi Levi’s Winding, a movie about the Yarkon River. The award in the Golden Anchor Competition, which is awarded to a film from a country along the Mediterranean, went to Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s Winter Sleep, a movie about a family living in a hotel in Anatolia, that won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival last spring.The prize in the Between Judaism and Israelism competition went to Felix and Meira, about an Orthodox young woman in Montreal, directed by Maxime Giroux.
