Veteran Canadian showbiz great Paul Anka was forced to cancel scheduled shows in Tel Aviv this summer due to Operation Protective Edge. However, the singer of hits like “Diana” and the composer of the Frank Sinatra classic “My Way” promised to reschedule, and he has. The makeup shows at Mann Auditorium will take place on October 17 and 18. Tickets for the canceled July 24 show will be honored on October 17, and for the July 26 show on October 18.The 73-year-old singer was one of the biggest pre-Beatles-era performers, with a string of late ‘50s-early ’60s hits like “Diana,” “You Are My Destiny” and “Crazy Love.” The latter two songs were featured in the iconic Lemon Popsicle film series, which cemented his status among Israelis of a certain age.“I think some of my popularity in Israel derives from their love of a certain time period and songs, and because of that, I’ve been embraced,” he told The Jerusalem Post before his last appearance in Israel in 2011. “There’s a certain passion that Israelis have for music, let alone mine, that really enhances the performances.”
