The Weizmann Institute recently held its scientific club at the Sheva Event Hall in Tel Aviv, which was attended by chair Shimshon Harel, an owner of American Israel Investments, and CEO Yael Goren-Wegman, and sponsored by Credit Suisse. The evening began with a lecture by Weizmann astro-physicist Prof. Avishay Gal-Yam, titled, “The Solar System, the elections, and the life cycle of a star after dinner,” and then proceeded with a fascinating talk by Ben Caspit, author of a biography of Benjamin Netanyahu, who regaled the audience with details from Netanyahu’s life, shortcomings and motives. Attending were Prof. Daniel Zajfman, Weizmann president; CEO of Allied Group Yigal Schreiber; Sami and Tova Sagol; Yitzhak and Linda Sagol; and Ido and Orna Nechushtan.
WIZO Worldwide
Prof. Rivka Lazovsky, chairperson of WIZO Worldwide, hosted the annual WIZO World 2019 Meeting of Representatives (MOR) in Israel, which was attended by women leaders from around the world. At the meeting, a new WIZO program was launched to recruit a new generation of members and volunteers from around the world.
Former Supreme Court justice Edna Arbel, along with her daughter, Dr. Sagit Alon Arbel, and her 24-year-old granddaughter Yuval Alon, attended the conference where she told her family’s story, which holds volunteering in the community as an esteemed value. Edna’s daughter, Dr. Sagit Alon-Arbel, a gynecologist-oncologist, volunteers in two medical organizations and her granddaughter Yuval Alon, a student at Bar-Ilan University, is a social activist.  Edna volunteers in public legal committees.
Int’l Lubavitch Youth
Israeli-born New York real estate mogul and co-founder of MRR Development Rotem Rosen, and his wife Zina, sponsored the International Lubavitch Youth Gala that took place last Tuesday at Guastavino’s in New York. The co-chairs of the evening were Scott Gerber, CEO of Gerber Group and Meir Cohen of Cohen Equities. Among the attendees were Rabbi Shmuel Butman, director of Lubavitch Youth Organization, and brothers Tal and Oren Alexander, agents who recently arranged the sale of the most expensive penthouse in Manhattan to hedge fund founder Ken Griffin for $238 million. A number of awards were given to Tzachi Hagag, chair of Hagag Group and Avner Mendelson, president of Bank Leumi USA. 
Frank Lowy – Oleh
Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), Jewish billionaire Sir Frank Lowy, 88, was overcome with happiness last week when he welcomed guests to the INSS International Conference for the first time as an Oleh Chadash. “I am very pleased to be here with you on the opening night of 12th INSS conference. For me personally, this year’s conference is different from all its predecessors, since this year I am standing before you as an Israeli citizen. Yes, two months ago I immigrated to Israel.”
Lowy addressed guests in Hebrew and then apologized and switched to English. “I hope my Hebrew will have improved by next year,” Lowy told the audience. Attending were former general Amos Yadlin, who was named executive director of INSS; Orly Hayardeni and former Brigadier General Udi Dekel, the deputy directors of the Institute; Pini Cohen, head of the Israel Board of Trustees; Lowy’s son David Lowy, leader of the band Dead Daisies; Rami Unger; Alfred Akirov; Martin Indyk; and Stanley Fischer, former Bank of Israel Governor.
The Mule
Senior executives from the Audi Community business forum gathered last weekend at Cinema City Glilot for the premiere screening of the film The Mule. Before the screening, members of the community listened to a talk by Dr. Yael Sternhell, a senior lecturer at Tel Aviv University who specializes in the modern history of the United States. Sternhell, who did her doctorate at Princeton University, and wrote her first book on the American Civil War (Harvard University Press), In the United States, spoke about the drug problem in the US.
The screening was held as part of the Audi Community’s best film club. Among the participants in the event were Prof. Yitzhak Suari; Yair and Ilana Hamburger; Dr. Yossi Bachar; Galia and Yehoshua Maor; and Niv Oron, Audi division manager.
