1. THE NEED FOR SPEED
Director Steven Soderbergh presents his latest film, Logan Lucky. In an attempt to reverse a family curse, brothers Jimmy and Clyde Logan plan an elaborate robbery during the legendary Coca-Cola 600 race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina. 2. DANCE THROUGH HISTORY
Istanbul’s Modern Dance Company performs Travelogue, a celebration of 400 years since the writings of Ottoman explorer Evliya Chelebi. Beyhan’s Murphy’s multi-dimensional journey weaves together past and present – Chelebi’s geographical travel memoirs and the soul-searching passages of contemporary Turkish female writer Elif Shafak.

3. CIRCUS AMERICAN STYLE
Tel Aviv’s Florentine Circus presents The Great American Circus. Consisting of 15 performers from around the world, the show combines humor, music, colorful costumes, as well as tightrope acts showcasing the Grand Canyon to the Statue of Liberty. The shows take place in the Florentine Circus’s big-top tent in Kfar Hayarok near the Ramat Hasharon Junction.

4. SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK
Jerusalem’s Theater in the Rough company presents its production of Shakespeare’s bawdy comedy The Taming of the Shrew in Bloomfield Park, just next to the King David Hotel. The performances are free of charge.

5. JEWISH SOUL
The 30th annual three-day International Klezmer Festival hosts a string of musical guests from abroad, along with prominent Israeli musicians such as David Broza (pictured), Yonatan Razel and Avraham Tal. The stages will be spread among the ancient alleys of Safed, creating a unique atmosphere for the tens of thousands of visitors.

6. SHAKING IT UP WITH SEAN
Jamaican singer Sean Paul, one of the most popular reggae/dance hall crossover stars of the 2000s, is headlining the Shaka Festival. Paul performed on singles with Enrique Iglesias, Major Lazer and Pharrell Williams, and last year collaborated on hits by Sia and Clean Bandit. Joining Paul on the bill is an array of rappers and hip hop artist such as Vin Vici, Warriors and Talisman.

7. THE RAIN IN SPAIN
Jerusalem AACI’s J-Town Playhouse presents its production of Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw, directed by Yardena Buxner. Pygmalion (the beloved 1912 drama that inspired the musical My Fair Lady) tells the story of Professor Henry Higgins’s attempts to transform Cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle into a lady by improving her manner of speech.

8. IT’S A RAP
Multiple Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne takes the stage in Rishon Lezion. Lil Wayne is best known for hit songs such as “Lollipop,” “Go DJ ,” “A Milli” and “Got Money.” He has collaborated with artists such as Drake, Jay-Z, Madonna, Destiny’s Child and Eminem.

9. DIVING INTO DANCE
The annual Diver Festival for contemporary dance takes place over three weekends, starting from August 31. During the festival, performances are presented all over Tel Aviv-Jaffa in various venues, theaters, museums and performance spaces. The festival introduces the work of choreographers from Israel and abroad. There will also be workshops, discussions, lectures, screenings, debates, parties and more.

10. FOR THE LOVE OF
(CHAMBER) MUSIC The 20th edition of the Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival opens August 31 at the Jerusalem YMCA. The 10-day roster includes acclaimed artists such as Austrian violinist Lidia Baich and French cellist Edgar Moreau (pictured). A music lover’s haven, the festival features Baroque, 19thand 20th-century compositions.
