1. LOOK TO THE EAST FOR ROMANCE
The new romantic-comedy Crazy Rich Asians, which has been making history for Asian-American representation, became the highest-opening romantic comedy since 2015’s Trainwreck. The first contemporary English-language Hollywood film with an all-Asian cast since The Joy Luck Club 25 years ago, Crazy Rich Asians tells about young lovers in Singapore. The girl, Rachel Chu, learns that her longtime boyfriend’s family is extremely wealthy. Thrust into the spotlight, Rachel must now contend with jealous socialites, quirky relatives and something far, far worse – Nick’s disapproving mother.
2. CATCH ‘ANNIE’ IN HEBREW
A new Hebrew production of Annie is currently playing at the Israeli Opera. Set in 1930s New York during the Great Depression, brave young Annie is forced to live a life of misery at Miss Hannigan’s orphanage. Her luck soon changes when she’s chosen to spend a fairy-tale Christmas with famous billionaire Oliver Warbucks. With local stars including Avi Kushnir, Hani Nahmias, Marina Feingold and more.

3. ENJOY COOL JAZZ IN EILAT
Herbie Hancock, Joshua Redman, Tom Harrell and Gonzalo Rubalcaba are but a few of the big names who will play at this year’s edition of the Red Sea Jazz Festival, taking place August 26-28 in Eilat. 4. BINGE ON ‘DOWNTON ABBEY
Nothing is better binge material than Downton Abbey seasons 1-6, now available to all Hot subscribers at Hot VOD and Hot HBO. The ITV period drama series, starring Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, Hugh Bonneville and Elisabeth McGovern, to name but a few, won three Golden Globe awards and 15 Emmys.

5. DIVE INTO THE ORIGIN
The annual Diver Festival combines dance and performances from Israel and abroad, along with lectures, talks and workshops. The festival lasts for three full weeks, in a variety of spaces, theaters, and galleries throughout Tel Aviv. This year the festival’s theme is PrimiTV. In the midst of the digital age and the division between world authorities, the Diver Festival offers a reexamination of the dance world as “primitive” art, an idea neglected in contemporary discourse.

6. SEE NEW DANCE FROM KOREA
An evening featuring four works by up-and-coming Korean choreographers, winners of the Seoul International Choreography Competition, will be presented as part of the International Season at Suzanne Dellal center. The four works: “Sequence,” by Seouk Hun Ryu; “Uninhabited Island,” by Jae Woo Jung; “Sal,” by Jin A Kim; and “Sinawi,” by Jae Seung Kim.

7. MIX ARABIC MUSIC WITH ROCK ’N’ ROLL
Vocalist and oud and qanun player Elad Gabbay presents his album Play the Oud, combining East and West, Arabic music and rock ’n’ roll Jewish piyut and modern Israeli texts. The show weaves together original melodies, mythological piyut, original songs about the harsh and colorful reality of Jerusalem and arrangements of Egyptian classical song that were performed by the legendary vocalist Umm Kulthum. 8. TAKE A JOURNEY THROUGH LANDSCAPES
David Broza, one of the leading Israeli exponents of canonical music, presents “From Folk to Flamenco – An Intimate Journey through Landscapes, Boundaries, Stories and Cultures,” as part of the Jerusalem Theater End of Summer festival. Broza will host Quarter to Africa, the successful ethnogroove group that burst onto the scene in the past year. Artist Zohar Ron will enhance the music with a video show that fuses texture and special lighting with everyday materials, along with moments that seem soundless, like still photography. Broza, vocals and guitar; Alon Nadal, bass; Gadi Seri, percussion; Silit Lahav, flutes and accordion; Eyal Heller, guitars.

9. GO NORTH
Singer Lana Del Rey will be the guest star of the Meteor music festival, which will take place in September at Kibbutz Lahavot Habashan in the Upper Galilee. “We signed on to the show [with] the intention that it would be performed for the kids there, and my plan was for it to be done [with] a loving energy [with] a thematic emphasis on peace,” wrote the singer, when asked about coming to Israel. Del Rey will join top international and local pop stars and DJs.

10. BE A PART OF THE NEWS
Monica Lewinsky will be one of the glittering guests at the first Influencers Convention which will take place in Jerusalem next week. President Reuven Rivlin will open the convention, organized by the TV News Corporation, followed by ministers, newscasters, opinion leaders and more.
