One of the most sought-after artists on the electronic music scene, Joel Zimmerman aka Deadmau5 (pronounced “dead mouse”) will be performing in Israel for the first time at the XL:Extraloud event on June 8 at Rishon Lezion’s Live Park. Deadmau5 is known for his highly entertaining live gigs, often performing wearing a large cartoon mouse head.
Born in Niagara Falls, the Toronto-based DJ’s unique musical moniker was inspired by the carcass of a frozen rodent that he found in a computer he’d constructed.
In 2007 Zimmerman started his own record label, mau- 5trap records, and in 2008 he won his first Juno Award for dance recording of the year for “All U Ever Want,” a collaboration with Billy Newton- Davis. That year, Deadmau5 broke into the mainstream with Random Album Title, which featured the singles “Faxing Berlin” and “I Remember,” both of which performed well on Billboard’s dance charts.
As well as his own solo releases, Deadmau5 has worked alongside other DJs and producers, such as Kaskade, MC Flipside, Rob Swire of Pendulum, Skrillex, Bighorse and Steve Duda. He has received six Grammy Award nominations for his work.
Joining Deadmau5 at the XL:Extraloud event will be a lineup of popular local DJs such as Omri Guetta, Stephan Bazbaz, Jenia Tarsol, Astrix and Freedom Fighters.
