Damascus Gate stabber indicted for terrorism, attempted murder

The Jerusalem District's Attorney Office on Monday indicted Fadwa Hamadah on charges of terrorist activity, attempted murder and holding a knife in the August 12 stabbing attack near the Damascus Gate in which one man was lightly wounded. Hamadah is a 29-year-old mother of five who has Israeli residency and lives in the capital's Sur Baher neighborhood. On the day of the attack, she stabbed a 31-year-old man in the shoulder near the Damascus Gate light rail station, on Sultan Suleiman Street. Earlier that day, she had attempted to stab another man, but failed. According to the indictment document, it is not known when Hamadah decided to carry out a stabbing attack, but that on that morning she told her husband the she felt unwell and took a taxi to the Damascus Gate to see a doctor. “Upon entering the cab, she was carrying a knife with 12 cm. blade with which she was armed to carry out her plans to murder,” the document reads. The district's attorney office has requested that her detention period be extended until the end of the legal procedures.
