With the arrival of International Women's Day, the Delegation of the European Union to Israel has organized a series of events including women from different parts of Israeli society.
The EU Delegation will host an exhibition on women from minorities in Israel, titled "In Our Voice: Racism, sexism and multiple discrimination," and produced by Shutafot and Achoti, Israeli women's rights groups. The exhibition will be held at the EU Delegation offices in Ramat Gan, and opens on March 8.
The EU Ambassador to Israel Emanuele Giaufret hosted an event on March 6 with women from the Haredi community, which focused on their challenges and achievements in striving for women's empowerment. The event was also attended by women EU Ambassadors from France, Germany, Ireland, and other EU nations.
Rebecca Schwartz, a social activist who participated in the event, commented that "It is important to say this week...that women have the power to be who they are, to stand up themselves, to succeed and progress. In my case, it is precisely because of my religious belief that I am encouraged to be there, as women, for each other."
Ambassador Giaufret said that "The EU supports equality in all aspects of life: access to education, equal pay for equal wor, access to top positions in companies, government and public administration as well as elimination of gender-based violence."
"This Women's Day we celebrate our achievements," she continued,"and commit to never stop fighting for true equality for all."
