Fugitive wanted for double murder shot dead by district police commander
Anastasia Rosanov was shot dead in her apartment along with Eliezer Kandinov just hours after she had returned from a battered women’s shelter.

A man suspected of killing his ex-girlfriend and a companion of hers in Rishon Lezion on Wednesday was shot dead by pursuing police after he refused arrest in Lod on Saturday evening.Chief Superintendent Ami Ben-David, the spokesperson for the Central District, said that police had been tailing Yan Gavrielov from northern Israel as he was driving south. As he neared Lod he apparently noticed he was being followed and began driving erratically until he stopped the car in a Lod neighborhood.Police called on him to surrender but he refused, and was subsequently shot dead by police.The officer who killed Gavrielov was the district commander, Asst.-Ch. Kobi Cohen.Ben-David said that inside Gavrielov’s car police found a loaded pistol with a round chambered.Anastasia Rosanov was shot dead in her apartment on Wednesday along with Eliezer Kandinov just hours after she had returned from a battered women’s shelter.Rosanov contacted police on Sunday evening to say that she had received death threats from her ex-partner, and that same night was sent to the shelter in Hadera.An official from the social services department of Rishon Lezion said on the day of the killing that she decided to come home again on Wednesday because she felt cut off from the outside world and missed her children.The official added that the woman’s two children are with their extended family, and receiving assistance from social workers.
