A 67-year-old grandmother died on Thursday a little over a week after she was punched by a purse-snatcher and fell to the pavement in Bat Yam.
The victim, Bella Meshich, was walking home on the morning of February 18th when she was accosted by a man who snatched her purse and struck her, causing her to fall to the ground and hit her head.
The assailant fled the scene and remains at large.
Meshich, a grandmother to 8, didn't report the incident at the time and was only lightly hurt. She made her way to a friend's house but hours later began to feel nauseous. Meshich was taken to Wolfson Hospital, where her condition deteriorated and she slipped into a coma, police said. On Thursday morning, her condition took a turn for the worse, and she died.
Tel Aviv police, who only reported the incident on Thursday hours after Meshich died, said that they have set up a special investigative team to try and find the attacker.
When the crime was first reported it was opened as a robbery case, but with Meshich's death it has been upgraded to a murder case, police said.
