The IDF began on Tuesday allocating military badges to participants of Operation Protective Edge, issuing one its first badges to the family of fallen soldier Yair Ashkenazi, a 36-year-old reservist from Rehovot who was killed in battle in Gaza last July.
Ashkenazi's widow, Moriah, and three children, received the badge from the commander of Training Base One (where the fallen soldier had served in a reserves battalion) Col. Avi Gil, and infantry battalion commander Lt.-Col. Noam Ben Ari.
