The State Comptroller’s Office on Monday announced that Israel has been selected by the EUROSAI international network of comptrollers to host two major conferences.While formally the announcement only applies to Israel hosting next year’s Young EUROSAI conference, the comptroller’s office said that traditionally the country that hosts the Young EUROSAI conference also hosts the group’s main conference.EUROSAI (the European Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions) is one of the regional groups of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI).INTOSAI comprises the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of 191 full-member nations and four associated members and is listed as a support organization of the UN.The statement said that EUROSAI “assigns great importance to innovation and to fostering the next generation of comptroller staff members “in various countries.It said that these values are critical “in light of the rapid changes that are occurring in the area of critical evaluations worldwide” if comptroller offices are to have a chance of “coping with these changes.”State Comptroller Joseph Shapira has adopted these principles. His office has been instructed to implement them.EUROSAI was established in 1990 with 30 members. Currently, membership stands at 50 SAIs (the SAIs of 49 European states and the European Court of Auditors).The last EUROSAI conference was held in the Netherlands in June.
