Israel's security cabinet has rescheduled it's meeting to 9 a.m. this morning to discuss the escalation in the south, Ynet reports.
Originally, the security cabinet was scheduled to meet this afternoon to discuss the situation around the Gaza border, but the continuing escalation around Gaza, with hundreds of rockets fired from the Strip overnight led officials to move the meeting earlier.
Israel's skies have been alight all night with Hamas launching hundreds of rockets towards Israeli territory, registering hits in Ashkelon, Sderot and other border communities. Most rockets landed in open fields, while some were intercepted by the Iron Dome.
School classes were cancelled in Beersheba and across the south. Residents were asked to stay near shelters to ensure their safety.
IDF troops and tanks have been assembling at the Gaza border since late afternoon Monday, with a nearing military operation increasingly likely after weeks of truce talks between Israel and Hamas broke down Sunday.
