Karmiel woman killed by bus, husband donates organs

A 45-year-old woman run down and killed by a bus at a crosswalk in Karmiel resulted in her saving of four lives to whom her husband donated organs.
Last week, Ruth Rotstein had told her husband, Yaron, that she was going to walk to the hair salon and return home in two hours. She left her cell phone at home. While working on his computer at home, he heard there was a fatal road accident not far from where he lived. He continued to work and noticed that his wife had not returned after two hours.
He called the hairdresser to ask where she was and was told she left 90 minutes earlier.
“I had a bad feeling and went to the place where the accident occurred. Policemen on the spot said that the woman killed in the accident had not been identified. Suddenly, he saw shoes that he identified as Ruth’s and told the police that it was his wife who had been killed. “I have an ADI organ donor card, and so did she,” Yaron said.
Ruth had three daughters aged 20, 15 and 10.
Her husband donated her liver, which was transplanted into a 30-year-old man at Hadassah University Medical Center in Jerusalem’s Ein Kerem; two lungs at the Rabin Medical Center-Beilinson campus in Petah Tikva, a kidney at Beilinson and the other kidney at Rambam Medical Center in Haifa.
