Yesh Atid party leader and former finance minister Yair Lapid addressed European Jewry on Saturday in light of the violent streak of terror acts in France this week, urging them to come to Israel as it is the "one place" for Jews.
"The difficult events that have befallen on France are heartbreaking," The Jerusalem Post's sister Hebrew publication Ma'ariv quoted Lapid as saying at a cultural event in Beersheba.
Lapid made the comments a day after a bloody siege at a kosher supermarket in Paris ended with four hostages dead, bringing the death toll to 17 victims in three days of violence that began with an attack on the offices of French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo on Wednesday.
"It's horrible that Jews are murdered because they are Jewish and intellectuals are killed because they are intellectuals," he said in reference to the two separate attacks in the French capital.
"The State of Israel not only offers its condolences but also offers any help needed. We have extensive experience and sorrow from the war on terror," he added.
