Former defense minister faced heckling from haredi (ultra-Orthodox) extremists on Wednesday night when he went to pay respects to the family of Nahal Haredi Battalion soldier Yosef Cohen, who was killed last Thursday.
The hecklers complained that as defense minister, Liberman pushed for haredim to serve in the IDF. They condemned him for trying to pass a haredi conscription bill.
As he was on his way from the Jerusalem home where part of Cohen’s family is sitting shiva, Liberman heard hecklers tell him “you are worse than those who killed him.” The hecklers called Liberman a murderer and told him to be ashamed of himself.
Liberman and his staff left the area unharmed.
The haredi conscription bill has passed one reading in the Knesset and is not expected to come to further voting before the January 15 deadline to pass it that was set last month by the Supreme Court.
