Major Jerusalem traffic disruptions expected during Trump visit

Police operations during the Trump visit focus on the Jerusalem area and Ben-Gurion Airport.

The Jerusalem area is expected to experience major traffic disruptions during US President Donald Trump’s visit next week as Police Commissioner Insp.-Gen. Roni Alsheich oversees a massive police operation termed “blue shield” to secure the visit and maintain public order.
Police operations during the Trump visit focus on the Jerusalem area and Ben-Gurion Airport. Route 1, a main Jerusalem to Tel Aviv artery, is expected to remain open as Trump is scheduled to fly by helicopter from Ben-Gurion to Jerusalem.
While road closings are subject to change, commuters can anticipate that the following routes will experience intermittent closings on Monday starting at 12 p.m.: David Remez Street, Hebron Road, King David Street, Jabotinsky Street, Hanasi Street, Haari Street, Aza Street, Plummer Square, Hativat Yerushalayim Street, Jaffa Gate, Batei Mahase Street, Ma’ale HaShalom Street, Agron Street, Keren Hayesod Street, Balfour Street and Smolenskin St.
Police recommend that the public take the alternative routes of: Begin Street, Herzl Blvd., Kiryat Moshe interchange to Begin South, Haim Bar Lev in the direction of Agron and Ben Zvi Boulevard in the direction of Yitzhak Rabin St.
On Tuesday, the following routes will experience intermittent closures beginning at 8:30 am: David Remez Street, Hebron Road, King David Street, Gihon Street, Minhat Yitshak Street, Tsruya Street, Ein Rogel Street in the direction of Hebron Road, traffic heading north on Bethlehem Road traffic heading north on Harakevet Street, Aza St, Herzog St, Shmuel Bait Street, Bezalel Bazak Street, Zalman Shneur Street, Yehuda Burla Street, Nayot Street and the area of Rachel’s Tomb.
Police advised the public to use the following alternate routes on Tuesday: Gershon Agron, Haim Barlev, Jaffa Gate, Hebron Road, Hahashmonaim Street, Keren Hayesod, Emek Refaim, Begin, Herzl and Ramban.
