Pirates, a sea captain and Oren Hazan – How many Israelis voted for them?
The Election Committee released the exact numbers of votes each party gained in the April elections, including the pirates’ party and the ‘Simply Love’ party.

The Election Committee released the exact number of votes each party gained in the April elections on Tuesday, allowing the public to learn exactly how many people voted for former Likud MK Oren Hazan, the Pirates party or a new party called Pashut Ahava (Simply Love) that promised to solve the Arab-Israeli conflict with - love. Provocative former Likud MK Oren Hazan, who once challenged a Jordanian politician for a fistfight only to back down later, won 2,417 votes.Pashut Ahava, who vowed to open a Peace Ministry to solve the Arab-Israeli conflict, won 733 votes.The unusual sea-faring captain Bashara Shalian, who promised to make Israel a “mighty naval power” won 265 votes as leader of his party Ichud Beni Berit (the Union of Allies).These two unusual parties both promised to resolve tensions between Arabs and Jews, one using love, the other sailing and sea-faring.Ukrainian-born Semion Grafman, famous in Israel for his online videos in which he presents the high cost of living in Israel that reached thousands of followers, won 4,619 votes.He is a convicted felon who served time in a US prison for tax-fraud.The Pirates party, which claimed to be “headed by the internet” and suggested that voting for it will be helpful as a laxative, won 819 votes.The party was founded in 2012 by Cannabis legalization activist Ohad Shem Tov only to be attacked by pirate activists who claimed his party is not “a real pirate party.”The party calls for complete freedom, free health care and education, and fast web connection to all Israelis.
