Police in the Negev town of Arad discovered the bodies of a married couple and their son on Saturday in what authorities believe to be a murder-suicide.
Investigators at the scene reported a detailed letter apparently left by the parents, in which they explain their desire to end their son’s life as an act of mercy in light of what they described as “a serious illness.”
Police believe one of the parents - both of whom were in their 80s - killed their son before both of them took their own lives.
The parents’ letter indicated that the son, who police say was in his 50s, was in severe pain due to a medical condition. The decision to commit the murder-suicide was borne of their inability to bear the pain of his illness.
Investigators at the scene took statements from witnesses and neighbors as more evidence is being gathered.
