Police to indict Kiryat Gat resident for attacking 77-year-old woman

The victim was evacuated by medical teams to the hospital for treatment.

Police were set to indict a resident of Kiryat Gat on suspicion of having assaulted a 77-year-old woman in a park last month, the Israel Police said Sunday.
The attack occurred on July 21, when police received a report about an incident in Kiryat Gat in which an elderly woman was assaulted while she was out taking a stroll.
Testimonies and interrogation indicate that the 24-year-old male suspect hit her in the face; when she fell to the ground, he continued to kick her face and all parts of her body, seriously wounding her. Police officers who rushed to the scene followed a trail of blood stains that led them to the suspect’s house where he was found with fresh blood on his hands.
Meanwhile, the victim was evacuated by medical teams to the hospital for treatment.
When the police attempted to arrest the suspect, they say he tried to attack them, causing great damage to his own property, but was eventually detained. “The Israel Police will act vigorously to locate and interrogate suspects in order to find out the truth as quickly as possible, and to increase the sense of normative public security,” the police said.
Police questioned the suspect at the Kiryat Gat police station while additional investigators collected testimonies and forensic evidence from the scene of the crime. At the end of his interrogation, the suspect was jailed and his detention was extended by a number of days. As the investigation progressed, his remand was repeatedly extended.
Tests carried out at the Israel Police’s forensic laboratories provided evidence of the suspect’s connection to the attack. Based on these findings, together with the rest of the investigation conducted by the police, the police announced their intention to file an indictment against the suspect.
