Bayit Yehudi Anglo forum chairman Jeremy Saltan declared his candidacy Tuesday for a spot on the seven-member Bayit Yehudi central committee presidential board, which sets the agenda for and governs all central committee meetings. The election will take place at the Bayit Yehudi central committee convention next Tuesday in Yad Binyamin, during which the central committee is also expected to approve changes to the party constitution. Saltan is running with the backing of three separate forums within the party."My goal is to represent, strengthen and promote the immigrant community in general and the immigrants from English speaking countries in particular," Saltan said. "It is important for us Anglos to have our voice in central committee meetings. We offer so much as Zionist Jews who came here by choice, at a time when some native Israelis choose to leave our homeland behind. It is time for us to have more influence."Chicago-born Saltan, 31, made Aliya in 1995 with his family and now lives with his wife and two children in Mevasseret Zion. He is Bayit Yehudi’s branch director in the town as well as the party’s national Anglo forum chairman. He serves as Bayit Yehudi’s representative on the Mevasseret Zion city council’s security committee, advancement of the status of women Committee and its immigration and absorption committee.Saltan has experience as a campaigner and political aide and has worked at the Knesset, faction, ministry and party levels. He has also been a political and poll analyst for the now defunct Voice of Israel Radio and other news outlets. He has appeared on various TV and radio programs, including encounters with Joint List MK Ahmed Tibi and Haaretz journalist Gideon Levy."I call on all Anglo supporters of the Bayit Yehudi to help persuade their local central committee members to support my candidacy," Saltan said. "We are the personal example and the backbone of the fundamental principle of our party – the nation of Israel, in the land of Israel, according to the Torah of Israel.”
