Ghattas: Glick entering Knesset is proof country is ‘fascist’

Arab MKs told The Jerusalem Post Sunday that Temple Mount activist Yehuda Glick becoming an MK is a sign of the country’s “fascist” and “racist laws.”

“Glick joining the Knesset is the most powerful proof for the transformation of the whole Israeli political system in general and the Likud Party in particular into an extreme fascist and crazy religious mess,” Joint List MK Basel Ghattas (Balad) said.

Glick, who advocates for allowing Jews to pray on the Temple Mount, survived an assassination attempt in 2014 after being shot four times.

Joint List MK Haneen Zoabi (Balad), asked, “Who is Yehuda Glick?” “Nothing compared to [Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu, [MK Tzipi] Livni, or [former defense minister Moshe] Ya’alon, who have become, in an absurd scene of an insane society, big democrats.”

In comparison to Glick, she quipped, “they have become great democrats.”

“Already for eight years I have sat with a bunch of racists where Livni and [Finance Minister Moshe] Kahlon are the examples of big democrats as two million people live under a daily siege,” said Zoabi.

These are the same people who “evict the indigenous people from their land, destroy Palestinian villages and build Jewish settlements in their place, and are considered to be great democrats.”

And referring to wars between Israel and Hamas, she added that those who bomb Gaza are “considered to have a great democracy.”

Therefore, she said, “Glick is actually not a problem.” The problem is with those that are “afraid” of his extremism while building themselves up in the image of democrats.

The Knesset, government and the opposition do not provide a viable alternative, argued Zoabi, but just more racist laws.

“This fascist Knesset can be changed by sanctions, a boycott and ostracism in a popular struggle and not by a change in government,” she said.

Other Arab MKs didn’t respond to Glick entering the Knesset.
