High Court petitioned to prevent Galant construction minister appointment
NGO says public's trust in government would be harmed irrevocably if Galant becomes construction minister.

The Movement for Quality Government in Israel petitioned the High Court of Justice Monday, asking the judges to disqualify the pending appointment of Kulanu MK Yoav Galant as the next construction minister.Galant was the subject of a state comptroller’s report that accused him of illegally taking public land near his home in Moshav Amikam. He was prevented from becoming IDF chief of staff after perjuring himself in hearings on the land scandal. When he entered politics, he said he “should have acted differently” and “made mistakes.”The movement asked the Court for a temporary injunction to prevent the appointment.It also requested the publication of the comptroller’s report on Galant’s behavior.“The public’s trust in the government would be harmed irrevocably if Galant becomes construction minister,” a spokeswoman for the movement said.The movement said Galant took land that belonged to him for years, constantly refusing requests by authorities to evacuate the land. The spokeswoman said the appointment of Galant “made no sense.”Galant and Kulanu officials did not respond to the petition.
