Meretz held mock weddings for gay and lesbian couples outside Bayit Yehudi headquarters in Rosh Haayin to protest the latter party's opposition to gay marriage Monday.
The weddings, conducted by MK Michal Rosin (Meretz), are not recognized by the government and it is illegal for anyone not recognized as a rabbi by the Chief Rabbinate to perform a wedding.
Still, Rosin said she was "proud and excited" to conduct the wedding and called Bayit Yehudi "dark and homophobic."
Also Monday, several Meretz topped a ranking by Aguda – The Israeli National LGBT Task Force of lawmakers' efforts for gay rights.
MK Nitzan Horowitz (Meretz), the Knesset's only openly gay member, came in first and Meretz MKs Tamar Zandberg, Rosin and Ilan Gilon followed. Over half (55 percent) of MKs received a failing grade from Aguda.
