The Red Sea Jazz Festival in Eilat, the country’s longest running jazz event, will mark its 30th edition August 27-30 with an almost completely homegrown lineup. The only non-Israeli artists in the four-day program are stellar pianist Chick Corea and drummer Marcus Gilmore. Corea’s trio, which also includes renowned Israeli bassist Avishai Cohen, will close the Port of Eilat proceedings.The roster offers a glimpse of how far the local community has come over the past three decades, as well as highlighting the achievements of some our artists who have made a name for themselves abroad.The program takes in practically every area of jazzy endeavor, and incorporates artists from different generations. The Old Guard is well represented, with septuagenarian pianist and Red Sea Jazz Festival founder Danny Gottfried, drummer Areleh Kaminsky and clarinet-saxophone player Albert Piamenta, 67-year-old bass player Eli Magen and saxophonist-trumpeter Mamelo Gaitanopoulos, as well as middle-generation leading lights avant garde saxophonist Albert Beger, the Meshichat Yeter (Overdraft) band led by 60-year-old saxophonist Amikam Kimmelman, and guitarists Ofer Ganor and Amos Hoffman.
