Report: Former Military Intelligence chief was held up at London airport

Amos Yadlin, the former head of Military Intelligence, was held up at a London airport by border control officers earlier this week, Channel 2 is reporting on Friday. The reasons for the delay are unclear.Yadlin told Channel 2 that he arrived in London this past Tuesday as part of a delegation that included a number of retired defense officials, among them former IDF chiefs of staff Gabi Ashkenazi and Dan Halutz.The retired army brass traveled to the United Kingdom as part of a delegation representing the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), the prestigious defense-oriented think tank that operates under the auspices of Tel Aviv University."We were held up for a few minutes," Yadlin is quoted as saying by Channel 2. "They asked us a few questions, but we continued on."Yadlin returned to Israel without incident.There is great sensitivity in Israel over the possibility that former and current defense and political officials could be arrested overseas, particularly in countries with active pro-Palestinian communities that will seek prosecution for war crimes.Last month, former IDF chief of staff and defense minister Shaul Mofaz traveled in and out of the United Kingdom without incident following reports that he was vulnerable to arrest.Israeli diplomats had unsuccessfully sought to obtain immunity for Mofaz, but British authorities could not guarantee him protection from arrest since the former army chief retired from politics and is now a private citizen.
