Outgoing Police Commissioner Roni Alsheich passed on a document to Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit, in which he exposed damaging information about two out of three candidates who are looking to become the next police chief, Channel 2 reported on Thursday.
The document refers mainly to current Jerusalem District Commander Yoram Halevy, who is also the favorite among the candidates. According to Channel 2, Moshe (Chico) Edri is also mentioned in the document, while the commander of the Tel Aviv district, Major General David Bitan, is not part of it, but is considered the least likely of the three to replace Alscheich.
"I was obligated by law to pass on the information," Alscheich said.
It was not clear how the timing of the new information would impact the appointment.
No further information about the content of the document was released.
Roni Alscheich is slated to leave his post as Police Commissioner on December 3, after his contract wasn't renewed by Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan (Likud).
