Police arrested a man on suspicion of killing his spouse late Saturday night in Bat Yam.Authorities said they responded to a report of a man shouting in a Bat Yam apartment on Galil Street. They located the 29-year-old suspect outside the apartment, who then informed them that he had killed his spouse.The body of the woman, 40, was found in the apartment with signs of violence. Emergency medical responders arrived at 12:30 a.m. and pronounced her dead at the scene.“When we entered the apartment, we saw a woman of about 40 lying unconscious not breathing and with no pulse. We performed medical examinations. She had signs of violence on her body and did not have any sign of life,” said Magen David Adom paramedic Kobi Mashiach.Police opened an investigation into the incident. No prior complaints were received about the couple.In court on Sunday, the suspect’s remand was extended for eight days and a gag order was placed on his identity.According to Channel 2, prior to having his remand extended, police brought the suspect to the murder scene to describe the sequence of events.The killing follows a string of murders of women in the past few months. Lina Ismail, the mother of two children, was shot several times while driving on April 2. Meir Efraim Goldstein, 34, who was declared mentally insane, decapitated and burned his ex-wife, Adele Goldstein, 33, in late March.Earlier in April, Siam Azbaraja was shot at her home in Lod and died of her wounds the next day.Joint List MK Aida Touma-Sliman, who chairs the Knesset Committee on the Status of Women and Gender Equality, has called on the state to reassess the health, welfare and policing services dedicated to preventing the murder of women.“When there is a recurrence of murders and a lack of exposure of the murderers, like in Ramle and Lod, anyone can feel that he will not pay a price if he murders,” she said in April.
