Senior U.S. and Israeli officials attend historic meeting in City of David

The archaeological site is defined as a national park, but it is considered politically sensitive because it is run by the right-wing association Elad, which deals with Jewish settlement.

A historic, festive meeting was held at the City of David site Tuesday evening on the occasion of the visit of US National Security Advisor John Bolton, who arrived in Israel on Sunday.
Bolton came to Israel ahead of talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli officials concerning issues of national security.
In addition to Bolton, the meeting was attended by United States Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, Israel’s National Security Advisor Meir Ben Shabbat, and Israel’s Ambassador to the United States Ron Dermer, along with other senior administration staff.
"We are delighted to announce that yesterday evening, August 21, 2018, a historic working dinner for senior United States and Israeli officials was hosted in the City of David, archeological site of ancient Jerusalem," an official statement about the meeting read.
Doron Spielman, Vice President of the City of David Foundation said that "The City of David was honored to host this distinguished delegation, in a place that holds so much significance to the Jewish people and the entire world. The City of David, site of ancient Jerusalem, is the location where the King David established Jerusalem as the capital of Israel 3,000 years ago.”
The archaeological site is defined as a national park, but it is considered politically sensitive because it is run by the right-wing association Elad, which deals with Jewish settlement in east Jerusalem.
