Beitar Jerusalem moved back up to third place in the Premier League standings on Sunday night, returning to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Ironi Kiryat Shmona at a freezing Teddy Stadium.
Beitar had its four-match winning streak snapped with a 2-0 loss at Maccabi Petah Tikva last week. However, it claimed its seventh win in the past nine games on Sunday, taking all three points despite a mediocre performance thanks to Lidor Cohen’s (48) strike from close range and Omer Atzili’s penalty (60).
“This was a very important match for us,” said Beitar coach Slobodan Drapic. “It was very important for us to bounce back after the loss to Petah Tikva. We didn’t play well today but we showed our character. We are taking it one match at a time and we will see where that gets us.”
Kiryat Shmona remained in sixth place, although its winless streak reached six matches. Only three points separate Kiryat Shmona and Hapoel Haifa in the relegation zone.
