Despite having to play with 10 men throughout the second half, Maor Buzaglo inspired Hapoel Beersheba to a 3-0 victory over Beitar Jerusalem at Teddy Stadium on Monday night.
Roei Gordana was sent off on the brink of halftime after kicking Beitar’s Cesar Arzo while he was on the ground following a clash between the two.
However, the visitors would be the ones who dominated the second half thanks to another sensational showing by Buzaglo. The midfielder scored twice and provided another assist to finally end Beersheba’s slump on the road and bring it back to within four points of Ironi Kiryat Shmona in first place.

Beitar looked to dominate with its oneman advantage, but it was caught off guard in the 60th minute and Buzaglo made no mistake with only goalkeeper Boris Klayman to beat. Six minutes later his corner was headed in by William Suarez and Beersheba clinched all three points in the 74th minute when Buzaglo netted his ninth goal of the season with a shot from 25 meters out.
“Our character won the match for us tonight,” said Beersheba coach Elisha Levy. “We recorded a very important win after slipping up last week. I’m very proud of my players.”
Beitar had gone unbeaten in its previous three matches after losing three in a row, but it finds itself just two points off the relegation zone following Monday’s defeat, winning just three games all season.
“I didn’t believe the match would end like this,” said Beitar’s under-fire coach Menahem Koretzki.
“Once more we gave up after going behind. We could have done better tonight and I’m really sorry for the fans. We will have to think about what we need to do next.”
