The Palestinian Football Association and Germany’s representative to the Palestinian Authority, Peter Beerwerth, signed a sports cooperation agreement earlier this week that will see a German expert visit the region over the next two years to examine ways to enhance Palestinian soccer.
Jibril Rajoub, the chairman of the PFA, signed the agreement with Beerwerth at the Joseph Blatter Academy in al-Bireh, in the central West Bank.
Under the agreement, the German government will cover all the expenses and fees of German sports expert Gert Engels, who will focus on youth development.
“Engles will be monitoring all administrative, technical and marketing aspects of the management of various competitions, in addition to the new generation of footballers,” said Rajoub.
“We are confident that Palestinian sports will achieve great success in all fields, and when it comes to football in particular,” added Beerwerth.
