After going almost a year without playing in the quarterfinals of an ATP Tour tournament, Dudi Sela has reached two in three weeks, progressing to the last eight in Newport, Rhode Island.Sela, ranked No. 65 in the world, beat defending champion Rajeev Ram (69) 6-3, 6-4 on Wednesday and faced Marcos Baghdatis (43) of Cyprus in the quarterfinals late Thursday night.Sela, who saved all seven of the break points he faced against Ram, was aiming to advance to his first ATP Tour semifinal since reaching the final in Atlanta in the summer of 2014.Sela’s up turn in form comes just in time for his first appearance at the Olympics next month. Sela will become the first Israeli man to participate in the singles event at the Olympics since Gilad Bloom in Barcelona 1992.Elsewhere, Wimbledon champion Andy Murray will miss Britain’s Davis Cup quarterfinal clash against Serbia this weekend, with captain Leon Smith naming Kyle Edmund and James Ward as his two singles players on Wednesday.Murray was instrumental in helping Britain to its first Davis Cup victory for 79 years last November, but had suggested it was unlikely he would feature against Serbia, which is also missing its talisman Novak Djokovic.Reuters contributed to this report.
