The Technion and the Israeli Olympic Committee will establish the Israeli Olympic Sports Research Center together, headed by Professor Alon Wolf from the Mechanical Engineering Faculty at the university.
This strategic agreement was reached following a symposium held at the Technion for trainers in the Olympic branches, in recognition of the critical research on various aspects of sports. The new center, aimed at encouraging studies that will advance various Olympic sports in Israel, is similar to centers in European countries as well as the United States.
"The cooperation between the Israeli Olympic Committee and the Technion is exceptional and very promising," said Technion President Professor Peretz Lavie. "The connection between Technion scientists and leading athletes in Israel will upgrade human performance and ensure future achievements."
"The establishment of the Israeli Olympic Sports Research Center by the Technion, a prestigious academic institution with an international reputation, and the Israeli Olympic Committee will position Israel in an advantageous position in scientific knowledge and technology over our competitors in world sports," said Yigal Carmi, Chairman of the Israeli Olympic Committee.
