Twelve years after doing so for the first time, Yoni Erlich is back inthe Wimbledon doubles semifinals, advancing to the last four with German Philipp Petzschner on Tuesday.
The 38-year-old Erlich is playing with his eighth different partner ofthe year in Petzschner and the two were forced to come through the qualifiers due to their lowly ranking. However, Erlich, ranked No. 90 in the world, and Petzschner (113) continued their unlikely run on Tuesday, beating No. 2 seeds Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, 6-4.
Erlich and Petzschner's opponents in the semifinals on Thursday will be No. 13 seeds Jamie Murray and John Peers.
Since last playing with Andy Ram on the ATP Tour in the Australian Open in January 2014, Erlich has repeatedly changed partners, recording little success.
However, he clicked immediately with Petzschner, who won the doubles tournament at Wimbledon in 2010.
" You can't explain chemistry, but we felt comfortable together from the first moment," said Erlich, who reached the semis at Wimbledon in 2003 in his breakthrough tournament with Ram.
"Everyone will be nervous in the semis and the team which relaxes first will seize control."
