The sale of the Beitar Jerusalem was finalized on Monday at a meeting held between Moshe Hogeg and club owner Eli Tabib, with the price of the transaction being closed between the two sides at NIS 26.5 million.
“I am happy and excited to announce the signing of the deal, and I have a vision to bring Beitar Jerusalem to a new path,” said Hogeg in a statement. “I believe in the team and its abilities and I intend to develop the club and take it to new heights.”
“I saw great importance in signing the deal before the start of the season so we could open properly. I would like to thank Eli Tabib for a short and efficient negotiation, and I am getting a team in a healthy and good situation from a person who cares and loves the team.”
The 37-year-old high-tech entrepreneur issued an ultimatum to Tabib on Sunday and released an official announcement to the media that he had upgraded the initial proposal, but also made it clear: “We want an answer within 24 hours.”
Tabib, who responded with his own message, said that “media spinners will not expedite the deal,” but finally accepted Hogeg’s offer on Monday morning.
On Sunday evening, hundreds of Beitar Jerusalem fans rallied around Tabib’s home in Kfar Shmaryahu, but now it seems that the club is on its way to a new era under Hogeg’s leadership.
The final and decisive meeting between Tabib and Hogeg took place privately with only the two of them in attendance.
Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat weighed in on the sale early Monday.
“Moshe, welcome to the Beitar Jerusalem family. I was happy to host you yesterday in my house until the wee hours of the night to coordinate the preparations for the signing today. I am convinced that with the power of the steps you intend to make upon your entry, to bring Beitar back to greatness. I am here to lend a hand and help in any way I can.”
