TAU students hold moment of silence, protest for Gaza martyrs

A group of Tel Aviv University students held a moment of silence for the “martyrs” in Gaza on Tuesday at Entin Square, outside the university’s Gate 7.
“This is a moment of silence in memory of the martyrs of Gaza who were killed in aggressive bombings, and in memory of the martyrs of the ‘Great March of Return’ and ‘Land Day,” said one of the students before the moment of silence.
Students waved the Palestine Liberation Organization flag and held signs reading “One nation, one will, one struggle” and “Freedom for the prisoners.”
Matan Peleg, CEO of the right-wing Zionist organization Im Tirtzu, called the moment of silence “disgraceful” and accused TAU of “giving a green light to minority students to incite against the State of Israel, while the first ones harmed by this incitement are the minorities seeking to integrate into Israeli society.”
“These demonstrations cause more hatred and polarization, and the university cannot bury its head in the sand and allow them to continue unhindered,” Peleg said.
A spokeswoman for the university told The Jerusalem Post that the demonstration was organized without the permission of TAU, was held off campus, and that the administration only learned of it after the fact.
“The university did not know about the demonstration and did not authorize it,” she said.
