A female soldier who fell unconscious while being held in a military jail last week has died, the IDF announced Tuesday.The 19-year-old was arrested in early September for smoking marijuana and held at Prison 4 in Tzrifin.She was examined by an army medic after she complained to prison officials of breathing difficulties, pressure in her chest, severe pain in her stomach and weakness, according to a report in Haaretz.Two days later, she was found unconscious in her cell. She had suffered a heart attack and was evacuated to Assaf Harofeh Medical Center, also in Tzrifin, in critical condition.She was later transferred to the Rabin Medical Center-Beilinson Campus, Petah Tikva, where doctors stabilized her heart and performed a CT scan, which showed she suffered severe brain damage, likely caused by lack of oxygen to the brain.The IDF announced it had opened an investigation into her death and that an internal investigatory committee would probe whether she was properly treated during her time behind bars and if there was any neglect on the part of the prison.
