One person was killed and 19 were injured when a truck collided with a packed bus at the Gitai Avisar Junction in the West Bank on Saturday afternoon. 14 people were lightly injured in the accident and five were seriously hurt, all of them Palestinians. The accident occurred when the truck failed to stop at a red light. The majority of the injured were taken to a hospital in Nablus while a few were taken to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva. Magen David Adom teams and an IDF helicopter helped in evacuating the injured for treatment. Ariel Mayor Ron Nachman told Army Radio that he has been warning about the dangers of Gitai Avisar Junction for more than a year. He said that in order to save money, the state had installed traffic lights in the junction instead of investing further resources to build the interchange originally planned. He also said that a new segment added to the junction compounded the risks of an already dangerous junction. He reiterated his demand that the interchange that had been promised be built without further delay.
