A pilot was seriously injured Friday - although a more serious tragedy was narrowly averted - when his ultralight aircraft crashed into the back garden of a Ness Ziona home. His passenger was lightly hurt in the accident. The plane went down in the bushes in a narrow space between the garden fence and the house. One person was in the house at the time, but he was unharmed. Firefighters extracted the two casualties - both in their 40s - from the wreckage and they were evacuated by MDA to Rehovot's Kaplan Medical Center. From the initial inquiry into the crash, it appeared that the pilot tried to carry out an emergency landing due to engine trouble. Speaking to Israel Radio, Ness Ziona Mayor Yossi Shevo indicated that the pilot had violated regulations by flying such an aircraft over houses.
