'Arrested youth is serial Arab attacker'

Arrested youth is seria

Police suspect that a 16-year-old youth who allegedly stabbed an Arab man in Jerusalem Thursday is a serial attacker of Arabs. At court on Friday, police representatives requested the extension of the boy's remand, saying they suspected him of additional assault cases including incidents near the grave of Shimon Hatzadik in east Jerusalem and near the West Bank settlements of Carmel and Yitzhar. The young man's attorney claimed during the proceedings that his client was "a normative youth." The court ruled that his remand would be extended by five days. The youth turned himself in Thursday afternoon, hours after stabbing the Arab man in the stomach in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Ramot Eshkol, near the Rene Cassin school. The man, in his forties, was hospitalized in moderate condition at the capital's Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center. The youth claimed that he was attacked by the man prior to stabbing him.He turned himself in after initially fleeing the scene. Police had earlier scanned the area searching for him. The case comes on the heels of another serial Arab attacker who made headlines in Israel recently. Alleged Jewish terrorist Ya'acov Teitel was indicted in court last week on two charges of premeditated murder and three charges of attempted murder between the years 1997 and 2008.
