IDF Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi announced Sunday that the IDF will participate in investigations into the Galant document scandal that was exposed by Channel 2 on Friday.
The document appeared to indicate that Eyal Arad was advising OC Southern Command Maj.-Gen. Yoav Galant with a PR campaign in his effort to be chosen as the next IDF chief of General Staff.

According to the statement issued on his behalf, Ashkenazi expressed his regret that matters which could damage the image of the IDF are getting in the way of the very important process of appointing a chief of staff.
Ashkenazi said that if the document is found to be real then there will be serious consequences, and if it is found to be fake then it will also be treated very seriously.
The chief of staff hoped that the truth would be exposed to remove the suspicions from any officer or civilian.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyhu also reacted to the scandal Sunday by announcing that he asked Attorney-General Yehuda Weinstein to investigate the the details of the document's publication.
Netanyahu
revealed to ministers during a weekly cabinet meeting Sunday that he spoke to Weinstein on Saturday asking him "to examine the incident as soon as possible."
"Weinstein
has already responded to our conversation and said that he will look into it," Netanyahu said.
