Bar-On: As time passes, chances of reaching an agreed reform lessen

As time passes without progress in negotiations with the Secondary School Teachers' Organization (SSTO), the chances of reaching an agreed reform in the education system lessen, Finance Minister Ronnie Bar-On said Monday at the Israel Business Conference. "I regret that the SSTO is unwilling to be a part of the revolution needed in school management," he added. Bar-On criticized current talk within the teacher's organization on whether to honor court injunction orders. "[This] raises questions regarding the commitment in Israel to the rule of democracy," he said. "Our responsibility to students left us with no choice but to request injunction orders. However, this does not mean that we are any less obligated to reach an agreement and push for reform," Bar-On stated.
